Confessions Of A Quilt-aholic: Hoarding Machines

MjAxMy0xZDE4ZGNmMzlmY2M1ODJk

We all remember my piece I wrote about Hoarding Fabric… I mean Stashing… (Awkward Silence.) Something I recently noticed, is that people are not just hoarding fabric, I’m sorry, stashing, but they are also hoarding machines. I, myself, have been dabbling in it I suppose, as I have collected a few machines, but only two of them, so I don;t think I need to go to rehab yet. Lately I’ve been going to auctions and consignment shops and looking for any antique gems that still run. The only requirement I have is that they need to run properly, because I do plan to sew with them. In fact, just recently, I acquired a Singer 66 from 1947, and I’m in love with it. It’s just gorgeous! (Is it wrong to be more excited about getting a machine than going on a date?) Continue reading

Dear People Who Think My Quilts Look Juvenile

Dear People Who Think My Quilts Look Juvenile,

It makes me laugh to read some of the comments people post on my blog. I never claimed to be a master quilter, but I think I am pretty damn good. When someone says my quilts look like a novice made them, they aren’t lying. I’ve only been doing this for less than a year and a half. However, in these 17 months, I have sold 6 quilts, made over 25 tops, and I have some of the most amazing people reading my blog every day. So when you say my quilts look like crap, I just really don’t believe you. In fact, it makes me think my quilts are probably better than yours. I’m not going to publish the comments you write on my posts, and I’m most definitely not going to stop quilting. However, I do have a question for you: why are you still reading my blog? If it offends you to look at my quilts, or read m posts, then go read something else, look at something else, or just get off the internet. I’ve always been a big fan of, ‘If you don’t have anything nice to say, then shut the hell up.’ So I’m not going to give out your email address and tell people to bother you, because that would be juvenile, and I’m just not that type of guy. However, if someone wants to engage in a quilt off, I’m totally down!

Thank you for reading.

Sincerely,

Eric The Quilter

PS. I would like to thank everyone who does encourage my quilting, and I could not do it without the support of my readers!

Finished The Quilting!

Omigosh! That appointment for my Psychiatrist was much longer than I had expected it to be, and my whole afternoon was shot! I got home around 4:00 and made some dinner. (I heated up some left over gyros.) I right away jumped on my machine and finished this beast of a quilt! I love the way it turned out, and later tonight, I will put on the binding! First, I suppose I should find a binding to put on it… To the Fabric Bins! Huzzah!

If I Were Oprah….

I’m sitting here at my Psychiatrists office, and I had to show up an hour early for paperwork. (New Doctor) The paper work only took about 10 minutes. Typically a 50 minute wait time would bother me beyond all belief, but guess what’s on the TV? The Chew! I’ve only seen one episode before and I was doing something else while watching it. Well, now I’m half way through this episode, and with nothing else to do, I’ve been watching quite intently. It’s amazing! If I were Oprah, the would definitely be one of my Favourite Things! I’ve always been a fan of Clinton, and now I’m in love all over again! Everyone should be watching!

Finished The Quilting… Almost

So, I ended up staying up way too late last night, and then didn’t even get out of bed until 10:00am. Slacker! However, I did finish the quilting. Well, almost all of the quilting. I decided to quilt with purple thread and then do the quilting of the last layer in blue just to make everything pop! I think it will look great! Here’s what I’ve gotten so far!

Time To Start The Quilting!

Now that I warmed up and did that table topper, I have to get cracking on this throw quilt so I can have it ready for the next craft fair I am entered in on this Saturday. I’m still not too sure how I am quilting it, but I’m just going to have to make a last minute executive decision when it is on the machine! Wish me luck! Looking at it though, I’m going to have to steam out some wrinkles first. Then I’ll quilt it!

I Found This Small Pieced Top…

About 6 months ago, I bought a box full of fabric from a woman who gave up quilting because her arthritis was bothering her too much. In this box was about 40 yards of fabric, all about half yard cuts, and some scraps, and a few larger pieces. I also found this. (The picture below is after I did some minor quilting on it.) It sat in a tote in my closet, but today I dug it out, and I finished it. I just stitched in the ditch and stitching around the snow globe, but I feel that doing that was all this little table topper needed. I like the way it turned out, and I’m sure someone will like it!

I’m Back! And Busier Than Ever

MjAxMy1lZTAxZjEzODY3YTg4MjU5

Hello my beloved readers!

I recently had to go in to the hospital for a med change. I ended up having to stay for 72 hours for observation, but now I’m home and ready to jump back on that quilting horse! I designed over 10 quilt tops while I was very bored in the hospital. I also wrote a lot of blog entries for my Confessions series! I’ll make sure to post one later tonight!

Kisses to all! Stay Fabulous!
