I Came, I Taught, I Had So Much Fun!

Yarn 1

I had so much fun teaching at The Weavers Guild of Minnesota! In fact, this picture is from one of the students in the class. She took the scrap yarn I had from work and turned it into this beautiful yarn! This was from a student named Angela, and she really ran with the idea of working with the scraps to make some gorgeous new yarn! Reclaiming factory waste wasn’t the only class I taught! There was making a scarf from scrap fabric as well! I had so much fun; I can’t wait to come back next year!

I want to thank everyone who came to the class, as well as The Weavers Guild for having me! Stay tuned and I’ll let you know what classes I’ll push for next year! Or, let me know what classes you want me to teach!

One Layer Down – Reclaimed Yarn Baby Blanket

img_20180715_214258965_ll.jpg

It took quite a bit of stitching, and quite a bit of yarn scraps, but the first layer is done!!! When I started, I took two pieces of water soluble stabilizer, and put yarn scraps from the factory between them. Then I stitches them down a bit, and then just threw it in my embroidery machine and let it go! After about 4 hours of embroidery time, I simply washed out the stabilizer. I have one more layer for the back, which is going to be gorgeous, and then that will also form the binding.

Next time, I have a few different ideas on how to do it, but we’ll see how this turns out!

Wish me luck!

I Got An Ashford Loom!

IMG_20180421_102832931.jpg

I got an Ashford 24″ Rigid Heddle Loom, and yes, it’s amazing!

I’ve always been interested in looms. Ever since I was a little kid in boy scouts, I can remember going to an old farm house that had a giant floor loom, and being amazed by it. Now that I’m a 20-something, I’m even more astounded by them! I started out with this Ashford 24″, and I can already see myself investing in a floor loom… One of these days!

I’ve been weaving this scarf, and I just love it! It actually goes by rather quickly. I’m almost done with it already. I used all sorts of funky yarn. I even made some from strips of quilting fabric, and some from t-shirts, and old hats. It’s quite the textured hot mess you assume it would be, but I love it! I’m so excited to finish it off, and start work on my next project… A Rug!

Working On My Latest Crazy Quilt

I finally got back to work on this beautiful piece of color atrocity! I just love it! It is just so bright and annoying! I’m not sure how large I am going to make it, but I’m thinking I’ll make it a larger size throw quilt. Maybe 70″ by 70″. Just a thought! I’ve still got to add a few more embellishments to it. Any idea what else I can add to it?
