Roving, Roving, Roving, and wait, More Roving

It’s been a busy week! I’m repainting the photo studio at work, and making roving in my free time. I’ve got so many projects in my head, it’s hard to find the time and upper body strength to keep up. Turning my carder for hours is quite the arm workout. (I’ve even been trying to make sure I switch arms, so one doesn’t get more ripped than the other.) Needless to say… my back is killing me! I can live with that, but now I have a sty on my left eye… and that’s my good eye. The other one doesn’t work very well. So it’s been fun!

Speaking of health concerns, I did update the Dr. Mark Fesenmyer post with some documentation from his office – mainly communications between staff and myself. So you can check that out.

Seriously though, making the most of it! I promised some forest themed yarn to someone, so I’ve been reclaiming the acrylic for that. It’s a process, but I’m keeping acrylic out of landfills and making some gorgeous yarn! I recently posted some of the yarn I made on reddit, and people over there loved it! One of them suggested I do an online class on making some of my art yarn… I think I might have to. Maybe I’ll post a poll later with some class ideas, and people can vote…

Back to the topic at hand… ROVING! Follow the jump to check out some of my roving sets!

I Came, I Taught, I Had So Much Fun!

Yarn 1

I had so much fun teaching at The Weavers Guild of Minnesota! In fact, this picture is from one of the students in the class. She took the scrap yarn I had from work and turned it into this beautiful yarn! This was from a student named Angela, and she really ran with the idea of working with the scraps to make some gorgeous new yarn! Reclaiming factory waste wasn’t the only class I taught! There was making a scarf from scrap fabric as well! I had so much fun; I can’t wait to come back next year!

I want to thank everyone who came to the class, as well as The Weavers Guild for having me! Stay tuned and I’ll let you know what classes I’ll push for next year! Or, let me know what classes you want me to teach!

I’m Teaching In 2 Weeks!

img_20180111_150622521.jpg

I have two classes I’m teaching at The Weavers Guild of Minnesota in 2 weeks! I couldn’t be more excited!

One class is on how to make this lovely scarf, pictured above, and the other is how to spin fiber from reclaimed factory waste. I’m so excited! Everyone knows how much I love Minnesota, and it has been so long since I’ve taught an actual class. I’m a little nervous! I guess the hardest part will be making sure I pack everything! Wish me luck!

Carding Out Some Rolags

IMG_20190327_231608602.jpg

In preparation for My Talk at The Weavers Guild of Minnesota, with Sara Okern of Andas Mer, I’ve been pounding the reclaimed fiber!!! The particular rolags in the picture above are 70% Reclaimed Factory Waste Acrylic, 10% reclaimed silk, and 20% merino wool. I’ve been experimenting with blends quite a bit! I’m also getting much better at making rolags! You should have seen some of the first ones I made… not great, but they spun up just fine!

Between packing for my trip, and getting all my ducks in a row, I haven’t posted much lately, but hopefully once I get back from my time in Minnesota I’ll post quite a bit of what I have been up to! Wish me luck!

From Yarn Scraps to Fabulous!

Reclaiming factory waste has become a new passion of mine. I recently bought myself a Brother Drum Carder and an Electric Eel Wheel for Christmas / Hanukkah. I love both of them! How I lived without them for all these years I’ll never know…

As many of you know, I work at a knitwear production facility, and we have so many scraps. I can’t stand to constantly throw them out, so I started reclaiming them. I’ve been using the drum carder, adding some other fiber, and spinning them into some amazing looking yarn. This purple, black, and yellow yarn is eventually going to be the warp on a project for my loom. I’m not sure what yet, but I’m always thinking about how I’m going to use it. A lot of you know I fly by the seat of my pants with projects, so I probably won’t know until I am almost finished with it!

Wish me luck!

The Scarf Is Lava

We all played that game at some point or another, where you pretend the floor is lava… Well, I captured that essence in this lovely scarf woven completely from reclaimed factory scraps. I rejected hats from work for the warp and the weft. It turned out even more lovely than I had imagined, and let me tell you what, it is so warm!!!!
