Another Scarf Done

I don’t want you guys to think I’m slacking over here. I know I’m Eric ‘The Quilter’, but lately I’ve been weaving. Don’t think I’ve given up quilts though. I haven’t, just off on a new adventure. In fact, one of the things I want to do, is weave some fabric for quilting. I’m honing my weaving skills so I can get to that, but right now I’m playing around with simpler weaving, like scarves. Also, I’m trying to use up some scarps from the factory I work at, but that’s for a different post.

This scarf is made from some fabulous yarn, and it’s soft, and gorgeous. I just adore it! Now sure what I’ll do with it yet, but I’ll figure that out later. Follow the jump for more photos! Continue reading →

I’ve Been Busy

Work has consumed my life, as it always does this time of year, but now it’s calmed down a bit. I’ve been having a blast the past couple days with my free time, and I wanted to fill you in on what’s been going on. I’ve been pickling vegetables, making hot sauce, weaving a scarf, brewing kombucha, and few other things, but I promise to fill you in on all of it. Next post, I’ll tell you all about the kombucha, and a lot more!

Looming Up A Storm

I loomed a lovely scarf with fabric strips for both the warp and the weft. I know… I’m a rebel!

The warp was some left over quilt backing, and the warp was strips of batik fabric I had chilling in a bag waiting to be used… Well, I found a project for them!

I’ll post pictures of the finished scarf later this week! I just have to unpack it!!!

Another Scarf Woven

I’ve been a busy fellow the past week and a half. I was in Minnesota last week, and I finally finished this scarf I stared months ago. (Yes, I brought my loom on vacation.) I also wove another scarf, and I’ll take pictures of that later this week when I get around to unpacking it. This is one of the scarves I brought with me to the Textile center in Minneapolis, and maybe, just maybe, I’ll be teaching a class on it next year… We’ll see!

I Got An Ashford Loom!

I got an Ashford 24″ Rigid Heddle Loom, and yes, it’s amazing!

I’ve always been interested in looms. Ever since I was a little kid in boy scouts, I can remember going to an old farm house that had a giant floor loom, and being amazed by it. Now that I’m a 20-something, I’m even more astounded by them! I started out with this Ashford 24″, and I can already see myself investing in a floor loom… One of these days!

I’ve been weaving this scarf, and I just love it! It actually goes by rather quickly. I’m almost done with it already. I used all sorts of funky yarn. I even made some from strips of quilting fabric, and some from t-shirts, and old hats. It’s quite the textured hot mess you assume it would be, but I love it! I’m so excited to finish it off, and start work on my next project… A Rug!
