Picked A Border For Miss A’s Quilt

Lakeville-20130705-00408

As everyone knows, I did the body of the quilt 2 days ago. Since then I have had a hard time picking out what color to do for the border. At first, I wanted something that would tie in with the colors already in the quilt. Then I thought I really didn’t want something to take away from the center, so I had to scratch that idea. Then I thought I might do black, but then I remembered it was for a toddler, so maybe stay away from the black. Then I thought about doing this smokey violet, and I fell in love! I hope that everyone else likes it as much as I do

Things to do today…

On the docket for today, I have to put a border on Miss A’s quilt, and then I have to start the top for my best friend’s birthday. He is getting a Legend of Zelda themed quilt, and I know he’ll love it! I found this pattern online, and I plan to work the hell out of it! For the bird I am going with golds and yellows, and then for the background I’m going with blacks and greens. I know it will be fabulous!

Damien’s Quilt is Done!

Lakeville-20130704-00404

I just got home, and the first thing I did was pull this beauty out of the dryer! How gorgeous it is! I was bummed at first because I really wanted to do a bright blue binding, but the blue I had n mind I was about 6 square inches short on, and so I had to change my plans! So, instead, I used a green fabric that pops up a few other times in the quilt and I think it really just makes everything pop!

For the backing I went with a nice plaid I had lying around. It’s very comfortable, and it’s really dull and plain, which is a nice contrast to the top of the quilt, being very saturated and bright! I really love the contrast! I also like the way the green binding hits the colors of the backing! I used a nice burgundy thread on the top, and a black thread on the bottom to fade into the plaid. I’m overall very happy with the way it turned out, and now I get to give it to my nephew the next time I see hit! I really hope he’ll like it!

Quilting On Damien’s Quilt Done!

IMG-20130704-00398

I finished the quilting on Damien’s quilt just now, and I love it even more! I stuck with an asymmetrical theme, since the quilt blocks themselves are rather asymmetrical. I stitched in the ditch along the grid of the quilt and then randomly around other pieces that comprise the blocks. It turned out very nice! I’m sure if I’ll have the time to put the border on, but I just may be able to before the festivities of the evening.

I just wanted to update everyone in case I didn’t have a chance to later. If I do get the binding on in a timely manner, I will straight away through it in the wshing machine, and then post pictures when I come home! I’m so excited to share it with everyone, and even more excited to give it to the little man himself!

What Music Should I Quilt To?

I don’t know about all of you guys out there on the internet, but I really like to listen to some rock while quilting. It goes with the fast pace of the needle hitting the fabric, and I can hear it over the sound of my sewing machine! So for today, I think Linkin Park shall be the music of choice while I quilt this top down!

What does everyone else like to listen to?

What To Do Today?

Well, it is Independence Day, and I’m free for the first half of the day! So, my question is… What should I do? Should I quilt a quilt top, or make a new quilt top. I could quilt something down today, but my friend is teaching me how to quilt on her APQS longarm, so do I really want to do it on my brother, where it wouldn’t be as fancy, or as easy? I could also make a new quilt top for the next person on my list. Currently there are two people tied for that spot, with my old neighbors half finished pondscape, and my best friend’s Legend of Zelda themed quilt for his birthday! Too many choices!

One thing is for sure! I will not be taking the day off! I’m free until 6, and must complete something by then!

It’s Complete! It’s Complete!

I did it! I made Miss A’s quilt! It’s so adorable! My first attempt at a Bargello Quilt turned out alright! It’s not perfect, but trial and error, right! It was my first stab at making a Bargello quilt, so if you look closely the edges are not perfect, and yes, it is a little annoying, but it’s okay. I’ll fix it with the border. I hope I can anyways. I already showed it to Miss A’s mom, and she adored it, so I hope Little Miss A will love it just as much! So, I’m done for the night, and will put the border on tomorrow. I was thinking about doing a border of solid purple. Yes, that sounds right!

The Bargello Pattern is Beautiful

Lakeville-20130703-00388

Sewing all of those giant strips was quite the task! Mainly, because I have a very light weight sewing machine that slowly moves towards me as I sew. I think with the next few quilts I sell I shall buy a JUKI! It took quite a bit of effort to continuously sew these strips. The electrician was coming back, so I only had about 2 hours to do this! So this is what I have so far, and as I was taking these pictures I heard the knock on my door, so once again, I am out of my sewing area and back in the living room! Anyways, I hope everyone likes the pattern so far!

Beginnings of The Bargello Baby Quilt

First off, let me apologize for the lack of posts today! I’ve had an electrician over fixing the ceiling lights in my sewing room, so I was unfortunately parted with my fabric. Although, in the past hour or so, we have had a very fabulous reunion if I do say so myself. I’ve started to make large strips of fabric for my bargello baby quilt, and I’ve been laying them across my floor and ogling them for the past few minutes! So, now let me share them with you!

Bargello Baby Quilt

I finally picked out a pattern I like! It’s going to be a bargello quilt, and I really hope it turns out well. It is the first time I am doing a bargello style quilt, and I’m going to put my all into it, so I cannot imagine it will be that bad! I’m not saying it will be perfect, because I’m sure if I end up looking close enough, I’ll find a few errors, but I’ll make it work! Gosh! I feel like Tim Gunn!

I’ll start it tomorrow morning, because my eye sight is too blurry tonight to sew anything, and it is too dark in my sewing area. The ceiling lights went out due to some faulty wiring, and my landlord is coming by tomorrow to fix it. If worse comes to worse, I’ll sew upstairs, but tonight I am too tired to move all of my equipment up here.

Goodnight for now!
