As I sit here at my desk with my laptop working on this post, I feel like such a professional blogger. I’ve got my diet Dr. Pepper, a Beatles’ song playing in the background, and a very rough 1940’s film noir demeanor, but I mainly consider myself a quilter, it’s kind of my thing for some of you who may not know it. I’ve been doing it since July of 2012 and it’s the love of my life… besides my best friends, obviously. I don’t know if it is because I’m getting board with quilting, which I don’t think I am, or because I just want to branch out, but I kind of want to learn how to upholster furniture. I mean, I know that just because I can make some sick looking quilts and coasters doesn’t mean all kinds of sewing is for me, but I kind of want to know if I can do it or not. I did find the lovely example from a blog I read called Just The Right Size.
The reason I have been pondering leaving the quilting realm and dabbling in upholstery is Joann’s has a class on it starting later this month at the one by me, and I think it could be fun. I’ve too many times seen good furniture that is just ugly being thrown away by friends and family. Or for instance, the other day I was at an estate sale, and a gorgeous antique couch was sold for 5 dollars. It was yellow that parts of had faded to cream, but I think the structure was beautiful. It was a timeless elegance kind of a thing, but the fabric on it was just ugly. I knew the person it belonged to, so I wasn’t concerned about bugs or anything, but it was just so hideous that I would never have bought it. If I had known how to reupholster it, it would have been gorgeous!
I can do some really basic things like dining room chairs and what not, which I have done before, and I did a few ottomans in my time, but I would like to know how to do more! Lots more! I want to be a star! Like the Frank Sinatra of fabric! Someday, but for now, I’ll just see if that class will fit in my schedule. Who knows, maybe someday I can be a professional quilter, blogger, and re-upholsterer. Now that would be a triple threat I would be scared of! Now if you’ll excuse me, I’m going to get back to my Diet Dr. Pepper and Tomorrow Never Knows! Good night and good luck! Well, not good night, it is only 11:24am by me. I’m sure you all know what I meant!
Later today… Potholder Tutorial!
would it be awful for me to say that I didn’t think the “before” upholstery was all that bad! I kinda liked it in a retro-film-noir-vintage-y kind of way!
