Shattered Glass

Everyone remembers the nameless quilt, right? Well, as of right now it is no longer nameless. I have decided to call it “Shattered Glass”

Now everyone can see where it started out at, and how it ended up. It was quite a transformation and it did take some thinking, but I made this quilt look darn sexy! The real reason I changed it was because the person it was for didn’t seem too enthused when I showed it to her. She liked it and all, but there was no WOW factor and I could see she was hoping for one. It took some time, but I decided I couldn’t give her a boring quilt. It had to be WOW! I took time thinking about all of the things I could do to it, and then it hit me to take the border inside the quilt top and make it part of the quilt, and so that is exactly what I did. It took some time to figure out how I was going to do that, and I just decided to go for Random and fun, and sure enough it worked out! I sure am glad it worked out, I had quite a bit of anxiety about cutting into a quilt top I had made, but now everything is the better for it!

Frozen Star Gallery Posting!

Right now, at 2:30am I have decided that I really need to work on my gallery and organizing all of my pictures, so here goes nothing!

I’ve decided I will start with “Frozen Star” and I’ll make a gallery for each quilting project, so you can see the transformation from a pile of fabric into an amazing work of art. Well, most of them are works of art. Everyone has an off day! 🙂

Dali Project Has A Name: Sandstorm

The name for this Epic Exercise In Creativity has come to me. Sandstorm!

Bear with my through the process. I know what everyone is thinking. Those horizontal lines really through off the spontaneity of this quilt top. You are all correct. Nothing about them says Random Fun! Don;t you fear! They will disappear! They were only put in so that I could add width to the top, which was growing longer by the moment, but not wider. Once I am done with the next few steps you won;t even be able to tell that I put them there.

I’m not going to lie, this top scares me quite a bit. I never really go off the cuff this much. I’m totally down to throw in some random as seen in my Frozen Star, and Nameless tops, but this is excessive amounts of uncharted waters for me. So, please everyone bear with me, so we can enjoy the fruits of my labor together! And preferably with a Martini! in hand once this is done!

Early Stages of The Unnamed Dali Proejct

Image

I started work on my new project. I’m most definitely not sure on what to call this yet, but maybe because I have not yet finished it. Hopefully a name will come to me as the work progresses. One can hope anyways.

The project is mainly a vehicle for my scraps. Well, not my scraps per se, but someone else’s scraps. I tend to buy batches of quilting fabric second hand off of craigslist, and one batch I bought had a lot of scraps. Not enough to plan out anything with, so i decided to use all of them for this. Well, maybe not all of them, but most of them. I got the idea from my 2nd Space Trilogy Quilt, and I thought I could run with it!

I Have No Idea What I Am Doing!!!

I have absolutely no bloody idea what in the world I am doing with all of this fabric piled up on my work space, but hopefully it will be very pretty. I’ve decided to go with all out jewel toned theme with sandstone colored pieces to make it all POP! I was very inspired by the Hallucinogenic Toreador. I’ve decided to go with colors that appear in the famous Dali painting, and there are a lot of colors in it, so I’m working with rather unlimited freedom. I couldn’t find a grey that I really liked, but I think the sandstone will make it just as beautiful.

I’m not sure how, but I’m going to piece this beast of a quilt somehow, and I’m sure it will be quite gorgeous. I’ll start posting pictures when I get something substantial done, but who knows, that could be a while. Who am I kidding, I’m too excited and I’m sure I’ll have something substantial in the next few hours so everyone should be keeping their eyes peeled for my next update!

The Impossible Star Ship is Going For A Touchdown!

As all of you know, I’ve been working on this ‘Very Impossible Task’ of Making a quilt that is both Star Wars, and Bears themed. well, I did it. It is a crazy, excessive hot mess of a quilt and I know my Uncle will love it!

As I was sewing it, all I could notice is how much patterning there is. I probably should have stuck to simple solids in the sashing, but I wanted to be dramatic, and use up some pieces I had cut for a project I had abandoned. It just looks so crazy, I’m not sure if I should call it a ‘Crazy Quilt’, strictly based on how busy it looks. I usually go for a plan of simplicity, but you know, you can’t have your cake and eat it too. I really hope my uncle likes it. At some point before this weekend. I’m going over to a friend’s house for a quilting retreat type of weekend. So, I would like to have it shipped by the time I’m out of town working with my mentor.

New Inspiration

New Inspiration

I’ve found the inspiration for my next quilt. Not sure how I’m going to do it, but gosh darn it, I’ll make it work. I need to finish my Space Trilogy, and something about the work seems other worldly. I’ll have some kind of sketch or something tomorrow morning. I’m excited!

Not sure what size I’m going to do, but I was thinking another lap quilt, or maybe even a baby quilt, but I worry the coloring would be too dark for a baby’s quilt. I’m thinking dark reds, and and slate greys, and maybe some kind of earth tone to go with the grey. Not sure yet, but I am really digging those dots in the middle left of the painting. Not sure if I will work those in or not, but we shall see. I’ll sleep on it and come up with something fun for tomorrow! Goodnight Blogosphere!

A Very Impossible Update!!!

Impossible Project

Thanks for all of the support you guys! So I started working on it. It is a hot mess, but it is MY hot mess! I’ve decided to keep the themed fabric in blocks that are 6″ by 6″. So you can actually see it. I’ve also decided that all the fun is going to be in the sashing. The sashing I’ve chosen was left over from the Nameless Quilt in the Space Trilogy set. It consists of multiple batiks, and a lot of small prints. I chose to make the crossing of the blue sashing orange to really make the orange of the BEARS fabric pop! I’ll post more pictures as I start to sew more of it together.

A very Impossible Task

I have decided what my next quilt project will be. It is a little over due, but I have a quilt t make for a family member that I promised them a while ago, but just never got around to. I’m not going to lie, the project seems rather daunting. I’m not sure why though, but for some reason, I just want to avoid it, so that can only mean one thing. I’m afraid.

You see, it’s a father’s day qilt for someone special, and once upon a time, I asked him what he would like. A Star Wars, or a Chicago Bears themes quilt. He said both. I never should have given him the option, but you know what. I’m going to rock this. I hope. If not, I’ll do what I did with my last top. I’ll make it insanely abstract he won’t even notice it. However, that is a last resort!

These are the two prints I have to work into this quilt, so we’ll see how it goes! Only the Star Wars one is in color.

Fabulous Quilt Finally Got A Border

Fabulous Quilt Finally Got A Border

As of 1:30am I have put the border on this gorgeous quilt. I’m currently working on a name for it. I’ve decided I’m doing a space trilogy. Frozen star was number one, then this one, which is still devoid of a name is number two, and I’m working on the concept art for the third.

I just really wanted to show everyone the fruit of my labor with this piece having the borders on. It really makes it look as if the pieces are floating in space. I’m really digging it, and hope everyone else is as well.

Everyone remember how it looked originally? Continue reading
