I Chose A Border!

I chose a border for my pinwheel quilt!

Lakeville-20130726-00571

I decided to add a Pansy border that is 1.5 inches, and then a 4.5 inch brown border, and I’m not quite sure on the binding yet. I’m tore between the pansy fabric for a binding, or possibly black for simplicity. I’m not quite sure yet, but perhaps I’ll figure it out soon. I’m thinking about quilting it today as a surprise for my roommate when she gets home from work later. We’ll see!

Confessions of A Quilt-aholic: Sewing Through Depression

I have a confession: I have depression.

I was diagnosed with depression about 2 years ago, and up until last year I never really had anything that made me very happy. That was the case until I found quilting. I think there is something therapeutic about watching the sewing needle pierce fabric thousands of times, and not to mention beating down corner seams with a mallet to get them to lie flat. I find the entire project therapeutic. I get to watch something I make go from a pile of fabric to a gorgeous quilt. I think each step of the process really helps me get out of a slump, and even pushes me towards being happier in general. That’s actually part of the reason I started this blog.

How Large of a Border Should I Add?

Lakeville-20130725-00565

Now that I am finished with the body of this wall hanging quilt, I just need to know what kind of border to add to it. I was thinking the same pansy print fabric that is in the quilt, but I’m not sure. I also can’t seem to make up my mind on how wide of a border. Any suggestions?

How Should I Quilt This?

Okay, people of the internet, I need some help. So, My uncle’s father’s day present is a bit over-due, and I need to quilt it later this week. I was thinking about just stitching in the ditch to make the framed pieces of themed fabric pop! What does everyone else think?

Quilting Is Done On Miss A’s Quilt

Lakeville-20130720-00515

It is official! The quilting is done on Miss A’s Quilt! I’m not sure about everyone else, but I feel rather accomplished. I decided to go with the zig-zag theme of the bargello pattern I did, and then in the border I just wanted some fun asymmetrical lines and angles. I wanted the border to contract the symmetry on the body of the quilt. All in all, I think I did a good job! I’m really happy I chose the blue thread, and I really enjoyed the way it came out. However, on a more comedic note, When Miss A’s mom saw me pinning the quilt, she asked about the backing. I chose a hideous flannel that has a plaid print on it. She asked if I ran out of matching fabric. I told her I chose this fabric for 3 reason. 1) I had it… 2) It’s super soft… 3) It’s going to be so ironic! Miss A is a super sassy toddler, so I feel like when she gets older she will appreciate the irony of it all! I hope so anyways!

Miss A’s Quilt Is Pinned

Lakeville-20130719-00506

I finally got around to pinning Miss A’s Quilt. I know! It took me all day. I lost all of my pins! It took me 2 hours to find them! What had happened was, I had hidden them at one point when Miss A herself had come downstairs to come and say hi to me. She wandered down into my room and I had the container they were in on the floor because I had just unpinned a quilt. When she picked up the container I through it in a drawer and forgot about it. It took me a while to find it. So, I wasted most of the day trying to find the pins, and now that I finished pinning it, I think I will quilt it later tonight.

Quilting Design For Miss A’s Quilt

I think after a whole day of deliberation, and besides, it was too hot to do anything productive today. Between the stagnant air, and my lackadaisical attitude today, nothing really got done except some online work I had to do. But, between the periods of laziness, I did manage to draw out a design for the quilting on Miss A’s quilt. I really wanted to add to the bargello design, so I decided to do diagonals and then I’ll do something fun on the border. Not sure what that is yet, but we’ll see.
