I’ve been Deep Dreaming…

For those of you that don’t know what the Deep Dream Generator is, here is their definition: “Deep Dream Generator is a set of tools which make it possible to explore different AI algorithms. We focus on creative tools for visual content generation like those for merging image styles and content or such as Deep Dream which explores the insight of a deep neural network.” Basically, you take your main image, and you overlay it with the pattern from a secondary image.

It’s using a neural network to search for patterns in images. It takes your main image and searches then overlays it with the patterns from your send image. For the main image for this post: it stared as a picture of one of my quilts. Then, it got overlaid with an image of some roving for an art yarn I plan on spinning. If you look, you can see the fibers and hunks of silk printed onto the original image.

It really is quite the trip. I’ve been playing around with images of my textile work, layered with images of other textile pieces. If you want to see all of the images before and after the filter, check out my Deep Dream page on Deep Dream Generator.

Christine McConnell is my Muse

wp-1585680314561.jpg

Since I’ve had some time off, I have been catching up with Christine McConnell. For those of you who are not familiar with her, I found her on Netflix through her show “Curious Creations of Christine McConnell”. It had one season, and I still watch it regularly. (I’m also still very bummed it was not renewed.) Now she’s on Youtube, and I once again get to see Christine create the most marvelous things! She also has a Patreon, and of course I’m subscribed!

With my time off, I have been trying to craft, sew, and paint my heart out. Why not, I have the time! So, originally I had trouble finding motivation, but then I turned on her Youtube channel and I had to catch up on what she’s been up to. She made this lovely pillow, and her tutorial is amazing! It turns out so gorgeous! She is so amazingly talented, and it’s hard not to be motivated her! This is my tribute to Christine McConnell! I have to attach all of the fabric to the canvas, and hopefully it will be done in the next day or two.

Thank you Christine for motivating me!

New Works In Progress

Finished Canvas 1

I’ve been busy! Work was swamped for 6 months, and now everything it at a halt. I’m sure many of you are in the same boat. So I just wanted to share some of the pieces I have been working on. Some of them are done, and some are still in progress. I hope everyone stays safe out there. I’ll be adding more pieces I am currently working on shortly.

I’m also asking anyone with any cancelled quilt shows, art shows, or other exhibits to contact me, and I’ll gladly display your pieces!!!! The world needs to see art! Especially now!

I’ve Been Working… I Promise

IMG_20190613_192107_068.jpg

I know I haven’t posted much lately, but I swear it’s because I’ve been busy! I did get sidetracked by some health problems, but I’m back on my game! I really want to tell everyone what I’ve been working on, and now I have enough of it done that I can share!

I’ve been fabric printing! I know, that doesn’t sound super exciting, but trust me, it’s not like what you’re used to! I’ve been collaborating with two amazing artists: Beau Brokop, an amazing photographer and digital artist, as well as Cayton Cox, and amazing photographer. I’m making the fabric palettes, using my amazing quilting skills, obvs, and then printing their art on it! It gives a result that is astounding, as well as painfully beautiful to look at!

Over a dozen pieces are currently on display at Promise You Art House, and if you are in the 219 area this weekend, you should check out their event for the new show opening!

The featured image on this article is a piece from Beau Brokop, and it’s a 15″ by 15″ wall hanging quilt! It’s currently on display at Promise You Art House. I’ve printed about 50 of these images on fabric so far in sizes ranging from 5″ by 7″s to 24″ by 24″ wall hanging pieces. This is extra rewarding for me, because I’ve been thinking and dreaming this up for months! I started work on it in March, and I’ve just kind of exploded with it since then!

I’ve been printing on all sorts of fabric, and trust me, there were mistakes, and things that didn’t turn out, but for the most part I’ve made some amazing prints. I think I might even be teaching a class on it next spring in Minnesota! Also, anyone let me know of any places around Chicago or Northwest Indiana I can teach or lecture about it!

Check out some of the images I’ve been printing after the jump! Continue reading

My Fabric Order Came In

Well, most of it anyways. It got stuck in the bad weather in the Northeast and I had to wait for it. I’m still waiting for a bolt of light lime colored fabric so I can start on a commission quilt I have. I’m also going to use the purple and orange for the curtains in my bedroom! I’m so excited! I’m going to watch Mr. Nobody and get a cutting on the fabric I have. Wish me luck!

Silky Prints Fabric For Scarf Making

I did some heavy fabric shopping the other day. I bought these gorgeous silky print fabrics and I’m just so excited to do some work with them! I have plans fr a couple of different kinds of scarves. I think my favorite is the orange and teal! I can’t wait to make something exciting. I know I’m making infinity scarves, but I’ve got a couple of other ideas to mess around with! Wish me luck!
