“I Was Old In The Forest”

IMG_20190827_152453822

This one was quite the journey from start to finish. The photo the quilt was made from was done my a wonderfully talented photographer and artist, Cayton Cox. (Check out his Instagram here.) The quilt itself is broken up into 60 different squares and rectangles. It was kind of difficult, but it was fun watching it all come together. The final size is approximately 40 by 60 inches. (I still have to attach the hanging sleeve.) It’s made with over 50 different fabrics, in all sorts of textures ranging from tulle to heavyweight upholstery fabric. I’m scheduled to teach a class on this printing technique this summer at the Textile Center of Minnesota, but with everything going on, I’m not super sure. I suppose only time will tell.

Another Busy Weekend: Solar Flair

img_20170604_162916019.jpg

Busy, busy, busy. That literally describes me these days. This was a productive weekend! I did break camp, and get some frozen yogurt with some friends… Totally worth it! So today was work, work, work. I finished the ‘Solar Flair’ quilt, and I’m wrapping up my Twin Peaks quilt right now. I’m taking a break from ironing the binding to write this. You have no idea how good it feels to have this quilt done. It’s been sitting around half finished in my basement for months! Actually, almost a year! Let’s not talk about that too much. Let’s avoid my UFO stash altogether, in fact.

Anyways… Follow the jump for some close ups of this gorgeousness! Continue reading

My Latest Art Quilt

I’ve been off fighting the good fight the past couple days, and I decided to have some fun. I had this art quilt half way done, and decided to get back to work on it. I ironed on the applique, looked at it, and decided I didn’t want to do normal applique stitches. I’m just going to power over it, and run it over with thread. I’m going to pump so much thread into this quilt, it’s going to be ridiculous. Now I’m just debating, what colors and weights of thread to use… Hmmm….

Check out more pictures after the jump… Continue reading

I Present “It’s Dangerous To Go Alone”

After about 20 hours of work, it’s finally bound ready to be hung on the wall! It shouldn’t be there for long though, as I’m filling out the application for the Shipshewana Quilt show in Indiana this summer! Then after that, it’s going in the Lake County Fair in Crown Point, In.  I’m not sure after that, but I’m so proud of it, and I love the way it turned out! I was really lucky to not have had trouble with the paint, as it was my first time using it in this application. I just love it! After the shows, I’m putting it up for sale, but to be honest, I kind of want to keep it! Wish me luck!

A Legend Of Zelda Art Quilt

Last week at my quilt guild, we had Denise Havlan speak about her art quilts, and it was quite inspiring! So Yesterday I decided to get started on one. It’s called “It’s Dangerous To Go Alone”. Eventually it will be the Lost Woods from Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time. I still have to add the trees and then embroider the silhouette of young link walking into the woods alone. Hopefully it will only take a couple more days! Wish me luck!

Alice In Wonderland Meets The Garden Of Eden???

Do you ever just want to prove you “can” do something. I’m not big on making art quilts, to be honest, this is my first attempt. I just wanted to see what I could do, if I put my mind to it, and to be honest: it’s not half bad… We’ll see what else I can do to make it pop a bit more! I know one thing… I’ll need more thread! OOOHH!!! And some vines! Lot’s of vines! Maybe purple vines…
